Jeanne Zano has received high praise for her singing and songwriting talents. After winning the Wyoming County Fair Vocal Talent Contest, she gained the opportunity to open for country singer Lorrie Morgan, where she caught the ear of keyboard player and producer Mark Oliverius, who was touring with Lorrie. Mark asked Jeanne to work with him, which led to professional recording sessions in Nashville, resulting in the 10 song album “Here I Am”, produced by Oliverius, and including songs written by Jeanne, songs co-written with Mark, and songs written by Nashville songwriters.
Jeanne has also opened for other notable artists (Jason Aldean, Sawyer Brown) and was named vocalist of the month by SingerUniverse Magazine for her performance of the song “Can’t Get Over You”, a song she also wrote.
Jeanne has won a few songwriting awards for “8 Years of Life”, a heart-felt ballad she wrote about her sister’s losing battle with cancer. She has performed the song on WBRE-TV Channel 28’s talk show “PA Live”. Jeanne says she generally saves this particular song for a more personal opportunity to share it with people because of it’s emotional impact.
Jeanne receives great satisfaction from performing her own tunes, but also likes to “tear it up” to favorites like Gretchen Wilson’s “All Jacked Up”, or belt out the classics, like “Crazy” by Patsy Cline.
More details about Jeanne’s rich background playing music from an early age (Jeanne started piano lessons at age 6 and is an accomplished keyboard player), and her deep musical roots can be found in her bio on her website and on her facebook page .
Jeanne tells us: “I love my band. The guys are just awesome, not only as musicians, but as friends as well. They’ve stuck by me through thick and thin, and I BELIEVE in this band. We’ve been through a lot and each time we have a setback, we come out stronger.” The band consists of Jeanne (lead vocals, keyboards); Diamond Dave Baratta (pedal steel, fiddle, mandolin, acoustic guitar, vocals); Joe Partash (drums, vocals); Mike Dantone (bass); and Bob Bartoli (lead guitar). The band is still seeking another male member that can sing vocals and play either guitar or keyboards.
Of her band’s music Jeanne says that she wants people to know that whenever they perform, they give it their all. Their goal is to get the crowd involved and to make sure they are smiling and leave saying: ”wow, we had a great time.” Jeanne doesn’t want the band to be limited to one genre; and although they are mostly country, she likes to throw some rock/pop in the mix to keep it interesting.
A notable highlight for 2012 will be a performance at the Scranton Cultural Center on Friday, February 3rd- a result of The Jeanne Zano Band being voted a winner in the Scranton Cultural Center/Electric City’s Listen Local Series contest.
