S.B. Hider
“S.B. is a parent of two teens, the owner of quantities of vinyl (but who can’t work an iPod), and an enthusiastic but talentless guitar, dulcimer and piano player, whose fierce love of live music and chronic insomnia lined up in an almost cosmic way to permit obsessive venue hopping in search of glorious original music.
A pen name is necessary because S.B. rubs elbows all day long with guys in suits within some big-wig company, and none of S.B.’s bosses would be pleased to know exactly how late many of the Philadelphia venues stay open on any given Tuesday, and that S. B. was probably there only a few hours before that big Power Point presentation had to be given the next morning.
You may have seen S.B. at venues in and around Philly, and no doubt, if you did, you wondered “why is that old fart hanging out here?” Well, it is because people who can’t successfully be musicians can sometimes be “professional audience” and they can write about what they see and hear. S.B. owns an expensive pair of earplugs and carries them to all shows, in the hopes that some loud rock will be played, but is very willing to shed the earplugs to listen to a guy or gal with a guitar in a coffee shop, and pretty much listens for the musicianship and songwriting in whatever people want to play.
Expect gushing adoration of originality and mild criticism of predictability.”
