FRANKSTOCK – which will start at 6 PM on November 13th at the Lakeside Ballroom in Barnesville is a music event benefit being held in memory of Frank Ulicny. A 1977 graduate of Shenandoah Valley and once employed by Mrs. T’s Pierogies until approximately 2002, Frank battled against brain cancer, which was brought on by complications from a disorder called neurofibromatosis. In August 2008, Frank lost his battle with brain cancer and is survived by his wife Jane Straub Ulicny and his two sons Christian and Jacob. Although, this event is in memory of Frank, all proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society.
So how do you take something that affects your life and make it special? Ask the hosts/members of local band Toolshed Jack. My guess would be the answer is… hard work and determination. This charity event has been in the works for many months spearheaded by the band’s lead Steve Ulicny (Frank’s brother) and his band mates who decided to use their talents to give back to the community in general, year after year.
After witnessing the great success of 600 people turning out for Tinapalooza held in February 2009 at Lakeside Ballroom, the band thought FrankStock would definitely be another worthwhile effort. “It’s just an incredibly rewarding feeling to help the community,” said the band. Tinapalooza, which was also organized by Toolshed Jack, was held to benefit Tina Dixon who was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor in 2008 and later that year suffered a stroke. She was a piano teacher and singer who recently lost her 3-year battle. She was a loving mother of two teenage boys, caring wife to her husband Brad, a beloved daughter and friend who will be missed very much. The Dixon Family will continue to be an inspiration to many.
The entertainment lineup makes this event one hot ticket! RC from Pottsville Radio Station T-102 will MC the evening and spin some tunes in-between band sets. Local favorites Tazin Bender will open up the night’s events at 6 PM with their enthusiasm and savvy pop tunes. At 7:30 PM, the band Another Side, who are veterans of live music, will be causing all the commotion this night with their 3-hour set of energetic classic rock along with special guests. Toolshed Jack states, “We encourage you to bring your cameras/video recorders to capture the harmonies and exciting jam sessions. This will be a performance not to be missed, as Another Side will bring guests onto the stage. This will be an All-Star Jam! Many of the guests that will be jamming have been known for decades in the local music scene. Included in the All-Star Jam are some of the most successful musicians ever to play Schuylkill County.”
Along with Another Side members: Renee Gubala (Locomotion), Jim Siemanis (The Other Side), Frank “Blazer” Blozusky (Neon Blonde), Dennis “Schotty” Schott (Tucker Young) and Dale Kauffman (Auburn, The Other Side), the following musicians are scheduled to perform:
Joe Jordan of the Jordan Brothers
Mike Macker of The Mudflaps
Kim Burns of The Other Side
Vince Kalochie of The Other Side
Bob “Wap” Wapinsky of Tucker Young
George “Chico” Hartz of Tucker Young
John “Pe We” Damiter of Tucker Young
Jim Juranis of Fat Cats, Section 8
Bill Lindenmuth of Fat Cats, Section 8
At 10:30 Schuylkill County’s favorite party band, the hosts of this night’s events, Toolshed Jack will take the stage to close out the night. The band rallies to say, “We are extremely blessed to even be a part of this night. Lakeside Ballroom is a treasure of history and we get to play on that stage, again. We get to follow an amazing line-up, not an easy task, but we hope that our energy and our show will close out what is sure to be a memorable time for all. Our band will throw its usual PARTY for 2.5 hours straight, giving the night that little extra kick to blow your heads clean off your necks into the charitable night sky. GIVE-GIVE-GIVE people!”
Yuengling Brewery, Mrs. T’s Pierogies, Kowalonek’s Kielbasy Shop, and McCann’s School of Business, Broad Mt. Dentistry, Realty World and many others are sponsors of FrankStock. There will be giveaways, 50/50s, t-shirt sales and auctions. Tickets for this benefit are available through Toolshed Jack members at any of their shows; other ticket locations are: Kowalonek‘s Kielbasy Shop located at 332 S. Main St, Shenandoah, RJ‘s & Friends located at 601 W. Centre St, Shenandoah, Broad Mt. Dentistry located at 309 Pine St., Frackville and at the door at Lakeside Ballroom, Barnesville. Cancer has touched almost every one of us on some level and an outpour of support is greatly appreciated. So please mark your calendars for November 13th and make an effort to attend this local charitable event in this 1924 historical building located in Barnesville between Mahanoy City and Tamaqua. Lakeside Ballroom holds a crowd capacity of approximately 3,000 people. It is primarily used for entertainment with a spacious 10,000 sq ft. maple wooden dance floor and plenty of parking.
Again, I reiterate this will be one hot-ticketed event so please make sure to get your tickets early to avoid the line at the door. Proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society. With music, all things are possible… Rock on!
