jakesway – “It May Get Loud”

Combining the honest, rich lead vocals with the slightly distorted electric guitar and the predominant acoustic in the mix It May Get Loud is a pleasant rootsy Americana Rock album. jakesway has a distinctive sound, however after just listening to the very first track it is clear that the vocals and songwriting styles sound similar to the Goo Goo Dolls and the Badlees.

While the melodies and hooks had a tendency of getting a little lost due in part to the slightly unpolished clichéd lyrics, there were a few gems that truly stood out on this album: “Take It Back” – a beautiful ballad, showcasing the vocal prowess and songwriting of the band; “Stephanie’s Song” into “Caught In the Middle” – which held my attention and caught me singing the hook with the band by the end this upbeat song; and “You and Me” – conjuring up some hooky country melody lines and lead guitar parts.

jakesway’s It May Get Loud is an upbeat enjoyable album and filled with enough noteworthy songs and hooks to certainly be worth getting your hands on.

Album is available at CD Baby and DigStation.
