Billy Venanzi aka Leechboy is a one-man band who uses his many talents to make music that sound like there is a full band behind him. How he does this is totally amazing! By using a looping pedal, he records and layers guitar and vocal tracks live, to make it appear to be a 15 piece band with back-up singers, or just one man and a guitar. This enables him to control his volume to fill spaces like the small coffee house, or large club. The rapid guitar lines make his live performances nothing short of dazzling. Billy’s live stage set-up includes: acoustic guitar, percussion instruments, and harmonica, which you can hear playing all at once or individually.
With influences that range from Classic Rock to Country to Folk, Leechboy’s music runs the gamut of these many genres while electrifying his fans and audiences with his unique style. His new CD consists of all originals that were written by him and co-writers Thom Schuyler, Brett Rosenberg and Bobby E Boyd.
“She Looks Good In Everything” has a cool rocking country sound with a nice hook that is accentuated by Billy’s dynamic vocals and tight accompaniment. I really like this as a future single release! “My Number One” has a great traditional sound to it that reminds me of an early Tracy Lawrence. The storyline is awesome! I like the way the tune breaks down and come back at you with energy. “It Took a Woman” has a peppy rhythm track that excites and the lyrics just rope you in for the entire tune. One of my favorites on this CD! “God’s Country” is one of those infectious songs that one wants to drink beer and dance to. A great tune with awesome lyrics!
“Together” is a ballad in the mold of a Toby Keith in its makeup and presentation. Heartfelt and deep! “You’ll Be There” is mid-tempo track with light instrumentation which adds that extra little bit of flavor needed. This would make a good single release also! “Wish I Was Her Car” is a great upbeat car tune that is always popular with the masses. The flow is flawless and the riffs jump out at you with a chorus line is catchy! Best Song on this CD!
“Into Your Heart” has a Jason Adelman feel to it. The laidback guitar work and rhythm accentuates this song. This song totally fits in with today’s country sound! The title track “The Way I Say I Love You” is a powerful song that has all the ingredients to be a country classic. The rhythm changes are fresh and it just hooks you into what Billy is trying to project through his performance. Another candidate for single release! “The Only truth That I Believe Is Time” is a nice acoustic song with vocals that remind me of a Gary Allen. This mid-tempo offering has just the right feel and attraction. I really like this! “Foolin Around” has a great down home feeling just like the way Randy Travis would perform this. Totally refreshing!
With influences that abound throughout this entire CD, Leechboy uses each one to his advantage. The tracks on this CD are well produced and executed as Billy Venanzi’s talents reach new heights. I give this CD “TWO THUMBS UP”!
