Review: Eva Katherine – We’re Gonna Get There

There has been quite a buzz filtering through the music scene about a young lady by the name of Eva Katherine from Schuylkill County. I got a chance to see a live clip of her a few months ago and was blown away by what I had heard. Her voice is not what you would expect from a 12 year old. She comes across sounding very mature and seasoned.

I was very excited to check out her new album We’re Gonna Get There. The 1st track “Crazy As They Come” immediately makes you feel good. It’s upbeat with a classic country feel. The next couple of songs, “We’re Gonna Get There” (written by Bret Alexander and his daughter Scarlet) & “This Is the Girl” (written by Carl Bell, founder of the rock band Fuel) have a very organic sound with acoustic guitars woven around her strong, beautiful voice.

Nashville-based father and daughter duo, Billy & Rose Falcon teamed up to lend their writing talents resulting in the song “Ghosttown” which tells the story… “Daddy built it with his hands, and it’s mine now – A blessing and curse handed it down – A beautiful house in a ghosttown.” The song seems rather fitting for this promising, young country music artist Eva Katherine who lives in the coal region of Pennsylvania that once was the hub of the mining industry. The Falcons along with Elisha Hoffman recently wrote “Give In To Me” which was recorded by Faith Hill for the soundtrack of the motion picture Country Strong.

A few more of Nashville’s most talented songwriters, The Mulch Brothers along with Rachelle Palasota, combined their songwriting skills on “Don’t Waste Your Time On Lonely.” While Eva Katherine’s voice has a classic sound at times on the songs, “Summertime Dream” and “Road To Understanding,” there is a nice freshness about her vocals on those recordings.

“Daddy’s Little Girl” – another song written by Carl Bell is a perfect father-daughter wedding song. The song has similar qualities of the hit song “Butterfly Kisses” by Bob Carlisle and is bound to be one of the standouts of this release.

Bret Alexander at Saturation Acres (Dupont, PA) who wrote most of the songs appearing on this release produced the album. Known collectively as The Lonesome Souls, Eva Katherine’s band members include: Adam Sorber (pedal steel), A.J. Jump (drums, percussion), Bret Alexander (guitars, keys, mandolin, bass, percussion & vocals), Cristina Cox (violin), Dustin Drevitch (guitars on “Summertime Dream”), Freeman White (keyboards), Mike Mizwinski (lead guitar on “Road to Understanding” & “Crazy As They Come) and Ron Simasek (drums on “You’re Not The Only One”).

With all the ingredients to make this album something worthwhile to add to your collection… We’re Gonna Get There can hold its own with great songs, a talented band and an up and coming singer with an astounding voice.

This album has substance and an uplifting quality. It has not left my car since I got it! Get your copy at CD Baby and keep an eye on Eva Katherine in the future. She just may appear at the Grand Ole Opry some day singing… “We’re Gonna Get There.”
